Posted by GreigMemLib on November 14, 2020 at 11:30 AM

We want to keep our littlest patrons engaged with the library, no matter what's going on in our world. Thanks to our friend, Adam Chasteen, we have created a YouTube channel for the library. On this channel, you can access all the story and craft videos from our upcoming 2021 Summer Reading program, and the Virtual Summer Reading program for 2020. You can also access all our StoryTime Saturdays videos, with new videos posted every 2nd and 4th Saturday at 10 am from January - April and September - December.

Please check it out at www.youtube.com/channel/UCt98TW0ZmXw7fCb6B0Ek3hA/videos.

Maybe some of our adult patrons and parents will even be entertained! However you visit the library, in person or online, just Keep Reading!!

Covid-19 Reopening Rules

Posted by GreigMemLib on May 26, 2020 at 8:40 PM

Due to covid-19, when Greig Memorial Library re-opens, we will need to observe all federal and state guidelines. As of this posting, the library is set to open June 2nd, but the date is subject to change, per state and local guidelines. We want to ensure the health and safety of all our patrons, their families and our staff and volunteers and their families. Therefore, the following rules will apply to everyone utilizing the library during this pandemic.

1. Patrons must call ahead (309-483-3482) for a 15 minute appointment time.

2. There will be no computers available for public use.

3. There will be no bathrooms available for public use.

4. Everyone will wear a face mask while visiting the library.

5. Hand sanitizer will be given upon entry and must be used.

6. Books will be returned inside the entry door, so that they can be sanitized and quarantined before re-shelving.

7. There will be a 5 book limit per patron per visit.

8. These rules are for everyone, including summer reading participants and families.

We hope you will enjoy visiting the library again, and we look forward to a return to normal operating procedures in the future. Stay safe, stay well, and keep reading!

A Nutcracker Christmas at the Library 2019

Posted by GreigMemLib on December 10, 2019 at 11:40 AM

A Nutcracker Christmas party held on December 4th, 2019, was a huge success. We had 64 visitors to the library that night, with our pre-K to 6th grade ROWVA students making nutcracker-themed crafts in stations throughout the library. Mrs. Claus, our special visitor, read the Nutcracker story to our young visitors, while they enjoyed Christmas cookies and hot chocolate. At the end of the night, Santa even came to visit, hear Christmas wishes, and have his picture taken with our visitors! We invite everyone to come to A Nutcracker Christmas Open House at the library on Saturday, December 21st, from 10 am to Noon. The library will be closed for the holidays after that day. Come see our beautiful Nutcracker Christmas decorations throughout the library, meet and talk to Bev our new librarian, and see what we've been up to in 2019: the new Pilcrow books, the new Book Club, Puzzlers club, kids' activities and more. Maybe you will find something you would like to participate in for 2020. And, please, do check out all the new books from 2019. We guarantee there is something you will like!

Halloween 2019

Posted by GreigMemLib on November 3, 2019 at 12:10 AM
Despite the cold weather and the unexpected thick blanket of SNOW, we welcomed 76 children and 30 parents into the library on October 31, 2019. Bev Bryan, Peggy Shipp, and Sharon Courtright were on hand to open the library on an unusual Thursday night, greet fabulously costumed youngsters, and hand out a variety of yummy treats and a free book to every trick or treater. We hope everyone had as much fun as we did!

Treasure the Past, Celebrate the Present, Discover the Future (Summer Reading 2019)

Posted by GreigMemLib on July 19, 2019 at 8:25 PM
Thank you to everyone who helped make our Summer Reading Program for 2019 a big success, and to all those young readers who participated and met their weekly reading goals. Themed around our new children and young adult books and existing classic titles from the library, we encouraged young readers to frequent the library with a kickoff celebration at ROWVA Elementary and at the Library, a wide selection of new books, Story Time Under the Tree, a Make & Take Craft Night held on Tuesdays during the program, and a pool party celebration. Between 8 and 15 young readers participated in the craft nights each week, and 21 participants signed up to keep track of their weekly reading goals. Our end of program drawing winners were Cooper Dennis and Aiden Frey, each winning a gift basket including Peoria Chiefs or Quad City River Bandit tickets. Meeting a weekly goal meant young readers could guess how many treasure chest chocolates were in the jar. (There were 151!) We had three equally close guesses, so they got to share the chocolates: Congratulations to Madelyn Adams, Ashley Lindsey, and Kenzie Rafferty. Please be sure to join us again next year for another fun-filled summer of reading...and until then, check back to see what other activities are coming up at the library. Above all, keep reading!

Halloween 2018

Posted by GreigMemLib on November 7, 2018 at 5:00 PM
Once again your Greig Library hosted Halloween for the local children. We had a great turnout with well over 100 attendees, 83 of which were children.
The kids got candy treats and were encouraged to pick out a free book to add to their goody bags. A good time was had by all and your Library Board and staff would like to thank all who stopped in and helped us have a good time. Another thank you to the Board and Friends members who volunteered their time and efforts to provide us with another happy holiday.
And a belated BOO! from your local chip monk.
