What does Friends do?
Friends raises funds through membership dues, grant applications, and fundraising activities. We use those funds to sponsor activities through the library and museum like summer reading programs (picture from 2019), a 5k race, a yearly Halloween community trick-or-treat event, a community Christmas reading night, and RaT Pack (an after-school tutoring/mentoring program through ROWVA).
We have been able to purchase new library books, supplies, a computer lab, new shelving in the children's room, a new flagpole, and other enhancements to the library. In 2019, we received a grant from the Pilcrow Foundation that added 97 new children's books to our collection!
Would you like to volunteer at the library? Would you like to give input to the outreach programs and activities Friends sponsors? Check out the Greig Memorial Library Facebook page...we try to keep everyone informed about upcoming activities. Consider becoming a Friend of the library and help support your community!
Friends of GML was organized in the spring of 2004 by interested community members. We are governed by a board of directors elected from the general membership.
The purpose of Friends of GML is to enhance the relationship of the library and the museum with the community. The Friends organization also promotes the use of the library and museum, cooperates with and supports the governing board of the library and museum, and assists the library staff. Friends seeks to augment and enhance library services and promote the preservation of local history.
